We've recently rolled out our new control panel to all our users, Plesk 10 which is a direct replacement from Plesk 9 that we were currently using.

Opencart ecommerce support and hosting

posted on Tuesday 14th June, 2011 by Neil

We're now offering ecommerce solutions through Opencart, an open source ecommerce platform rich in additional features.

Opencart has been around for a few years now and is gaining ground in the ecommerce space, and can be a more efficient alternative to Magento.

We're keen to show you what it can do so we'll be launching some demos of Opencart shortly for you all to try. We've also developed a few modules for this engine and these are listed below:

The Internet Explorer 6 countdown

posted on Friday 1st April, 2011 by Neil

Finally Microsoft have decided to visibly let people know of the impending shutdown of Internet Explorer 6. Its a bold move but one that many developers welcome. However there are still many corporate companies that rely on IE6 for their bespoke software and so have been reluctant to let go.

What's interesting is that China have the most recorded IE6 users in terms of percentage and oddly Japan also has a high percentage.

Is this a cunning plan of Microsoft to get us all to buy Windows 7 and start supporting IE9, or simply another attempt to release the vice like grip that XP currently has on many many PCs?

Christmas season

posted on Thursday 16th December, 2010 by Neil

With Christmas well and truly here (well almost), we're preparing ourselves for extended noshing of lovely food, the exchange of presents and the pleasure of good company. I've already added a couple of extra notches to my belt in anticipation of copious amounts of mince pies.

Our offices will be closed on the 24th December 2010 and we're due to return on the 4th January 2011, however there's always someone on hand checking our support@bluebit.co.uk email account in case you have any urgent issues, and you can always leave a message on our answering machine and one of the engineers will be on call.

So let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very wonderful Christmas and a fruitful New Year.

When will Internet Explorer 6 finally die?

posted on Wednesday 15th December, 2010 by Neil

It will be a bitter sweet day indeed when the staple browser for many Windows XP fans out there finally pops its clogs. It's the browser that all of us developers love to hate, with its quirky handling of double margin, to the way it calculates widths of things with and without padding and margin.

Bitter sweet because its been around for almost 10 years now and is still used in large numbers within the corporate world. Will we miss it? I'd love to say no but what browser can we bitch about when it has finally shuffled off?
